A Welcome from the President and
Executive Committee of the ESRS
Welcome to the re-launched website for the European Society for Rural Sociology (ESRS). Founded in 1957, the ESRS is the leading European association for researchers, policy
makers and scientists interested in the study of rural issues. The Executive Committee
are pleased to welcome existing members, new members and non-members and hope
that you find the new site informative and interesting. The website is our main vehicle
for exchanging information – for providing details of our annual conferences and
summer schools and also of related meetings held by other societies. It combines
information on the ESRS itself and its events with a newsletter for members. There are also
opportunities for Regional sub-groups to publicise more local networks and events.
At a time when deep and far-reaching changes are taking place in rural Europe, it is
important that rural research is responsive, innovative and critical. The work of the
ESRS seeks to support and facilitate such research and to ensure its wide dissemination.
This new website aims to be part of this process.
